About English Language

 

Introduction to the English Language

English is a global language spoken by over 1.5 billion people worldwide. It is the most widely learned second language and an official language in more than 60 countries. Originating in England, English is now a key language in international communication, business, science, aviation, media, and the internet.

It belongs to the Germanic branch of the Indo-European language family and has a vast vocabulary influenced by Latin, French, German, and other languages.

English Language Proficiency Levels (CEFR)

Like many languages, English proficiency is assessed using the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which is divided into six levels:


A. Basic User

  • A1 (Beginner):
    Understand and use familiar everyday expressions. Introduce yourself and interact in a simple way.
     
  • A2 (Elementary):
    Communicate in simple and routine tasks. Describe your background and basic needs.
     

B. Independent User

  • B1 (Intermediate):
    Deal with most travel situations. Write simple texts. Understand main points on familiar matters.
     
  • B2 (Upper Intermediate):
    Interact with a degree of fluency. Understand complex texts. Express opinions clearly.
     

C. Proficient User

  • C1 (Advanced):
    Use English flexibly for academic, professional, and social purposes. Produce well-structured text.
     
  • C2 (Proficiency):
    Understand virtually everything heard or read. Express yourself spontaneously and precisely.
